CURRICULUM THROUGH THE DAY:

Free Choice – The teachable moment is the moment they’ve chosen, so we provide lots of areas for the kids to play in and choose from.

Creative Art Activities – Open ended, sensory stimulated or theme oriented activities are offered every day during free play time.

Music - Offered during circle time, usually singing a song, occasionally playing instruments, and moving and grooving to familiar artists.

Problem Solving - Science activities are planned with general themes (magnets, nature, weather, water, puzzles, experiments with clay, sand, play-dough). Math concepts such as measurements, balance, sorting, patterning, counting, and number recognition are all incorporated into the fun.

Gross Motor - Outside play (bikes, balance beam, slide, balls, parachute, hula hoops and sand box outside and creative dance & movement inside).

Quiet/Solitary Opportunities - Book area, loft area and various small table writing areas available.

Story Time - Every day we read one or more books, and often we journal with children writing their stories to read at circle time.

Language Development – Happens throughout the class: in the writing area, during circle time, dramatic play area, and socializing throughout the day with other adults and children. They’ll hear and build their language base through song, finger play, tongue twisters, and conversations building on their reading readiness skills of letter recognition, phonetic and phonological awareness.

Social Development - Children learn social skills throughout the day in all play and in small group activities and non competitive games build friendships, and cooperation among peers.

Social Studies – Children learn about their world, their community and their family heritage through shared traditions and celebrations.

Emotional Development – Self-control, self-motivation and self understanding of their growing capabilities through the support, guidance, and love from everyone in the school.
